#1 Success is not about how good you are. It’s about how good you want to be.
Some people can get caught up in how good they are at something. They become blinded to what they can do to become even better at it.
This is more about your capacity, not just your capabilities.
Success is not about how good you are — your existing capabilities.
It’s about how good you want to be — your willingness to tap into your immeasurable capacity to continue to grow.
If you were already satisfied with your existing capabilities, you would not be here today reading this to learn something new.
So, I honor the fact that you’re inspired to grow, that there’s something better for you and your families that you’ve shown up for.
And while you’re here reading this, I want to make sure I can give you something to walk away with to help you become that better version of yourself.
It’s not about having a lack of gratitude for where it is you are; it’s just having a level of appreciation for where it is you are, and knowing there’s more you can give, be, do, have, contribute, and you’re inspired to figure out the answer to how do I rise higher.
To do that, we must address our thoughts and feelings.
Our minds can be overflowing with thoughts like barbed wire, weeds, broken glass, and all kinds of obstacles in the facilities of your mind that will choke out whatever capacity you have to grow.
That’s because all that mental interference will keep us lost in the weeds, and the noise from the negative distractions can drown out what we should be focused on.
So, let’s clean our mental space up.
Let’s sweep our mindset up, pull out the sabotaging weeds, turn the soil over, fertilize it nicely, set this whole thing up, and then we’re going to go in, and we’re going to plant a beautiful, incredible support mental garden.
But it will be a mental garden by design, not a garden by accident.
From there, we can appreciate our current capabilities while stepping into our greater capacity to expand our capabilities.
#2 Success is not about how bad you want it; it’s about your refusal to live without it.
So many people in life talk about what they tried to do and would like to be rewarded for trying.
Trying to score and not scoring doesn’t entitle you to points because of your effort.
The depth of your effort is what gives you the opportunity to score.
This is about focusing on impact over effort.
The difference is massive.
The person who wants something may try it, think about it, and give it a shot. Versus the person that refuses to live without it, they are clear on what it is and won’t let anything or no one prevent them from getting it… no matter the odds.
Trying and failing are certainly part of the process of succeeding. The reward from the process is our growth, evolution, and transformation.
That said, when it comes to impact, we must ensure those efforts within the try-fail cycle eventually lead to points on the board.
At the beginning of every sports season, every team hustles, grinds, and battles with their best efforts.
However, those whose efforts had the most significant impact over that period held the championship trophy.
The moment you truly have something you aspire to that you refuse to live without. You will go beyond your current capabilities and tap into the depth of your capacity to grow smarter, faster, stronger, etc., and far exceed where you currently are.
#3 Success is not about things getting better. It’s about you getting better then getting out of your own way.
I call this… improve and move.
Many people worldwide, as of this writing, maybe asking a common question.
The question may go something like this…
“When will the financial crisis be over?”
That’s a valid question. However, I have what I think is a better question for you.
My question for you is…
“When will you be over the financial crisis?”
Isn’t it true that people were still doing incredibly bad when the economy was doing incredibly well?
Of course, isn’t it true that people are doing incredibly well right now in a horrible economy?
So, here’s the thing.
You can’t control the environment, but you can control your position in the environment.
You can’t control if it’s raining outside, but you can control if you get wet.
That’s it, so here’s the thing.
It’s not about the wife or spouse, the president, the economy, the boss, or any of that getting better.
It’s about us getting better.
The moment we get better, we understand that, hey, all of this is about how much better I want to get.
Indeed, we are all impacted by world events and economic events. However, the economic impact doesn’t have to become a personal economic implosion in your life.
We don’t have to wait for things around us to change so we can get better.
We can instead get better and start changing the things around us.
We know things will be the way they are in the environment. We can’t control them.
That said, we’re not going to sit back and put our lives on pause. We’re not going to sit here helplessly waiting to be rescued.
Nobody is going to come and kick your door down and save you. There’s no rescue squad coming to save you. You must save yourself, your family, and your future.
Remember, it’s not about things getting better; it’s about you getting better.
Let me conclude with this thought.
You name it in life, business, sports, politics, and war. I would suggest you keep these two things at the forefront of your mind as you move to get better.
1. You come from a position of advantage or disadvantage.
2. You have a position of strength or weakness.
While most people thought they had a position of strength when they had a job, and then something like what happened in 2020 when 40-plus million people lost their jobs.
When a company has to start trimming down and letting people go, do they cut those who offer them an advantage and strength? I wouldn’t think so.
So, unfortunately, millions of people got let go.
Whether they realized it or not, from that company’s internal perspective, by comparison to other people, those fired likely had a position of weakness and disadvantage compared to the alternatives.
What you call stress, challenges, and problems. Life calls strength training. So don’t get down… get strong.
Regardless of the current situation, you may be facing.
You don’t have to curl up in the fetal position in a corner and be afraid and rot.
It’s time to step up and realize that successful people think in terms of… is not about how good you are. It’s about how good you want to be.
While accepting the idea that your desires are okay but aren’t enough because is not about how bad you want them; it’s about your refusal to live without them.
By using your current capabilities and tapping into your immeasurable capacity to grow, you can stop waiting, wishing, and hoping things changes because it is not about things getting better. It’s about you getting better then getting out of your own way.
It’s time to step up.
It’s time to put on your war gear and go out to battle and get what you want for yourself, your family, and your future.
